Understanding Law of Attraction

By Stephen C Campbell

There are many definitions and descriptions of The Law of Attraction. However, it has generally been associated with theories, beliefs and practices of the New Age and New Thought. It is completely based on thought process and people can control their lives through thoughts. People can have physical or emotional experiences corresponding to their prime words, actions, feelings and thoughts and due to this people are able to control real life situations.

The emotions, actions, beliefs, feelings, conscious thoughts and unconscious thoughts of a person attract subsequent negative or positive experiences. These are the vibrations or sensations of the law of attraction. Thus, it says that "your experiences are determined by your thoughts", or in other words it can be said that "you will be getting the thing that what you are thinking about". This idea of law of attraction has been popular Hindu, Buddhist, Greek and Jewish philosophies in the ancient times. So the various sayings like - "you shall reap whatever you sow", karma, "a man is what he thinks in his heart" and "like attracts like" hold true for it.

Features of the Law of Attraction

The deeper meaning of all these sayings is that we ourselves are responsible for the circumstances in our lives and those surrounding our lives as well. In the early 19th century, this became popular as thought vibration and the concept has been widely accepted as mental science or positive thinking or practical metaphysics or New Thought. This has been accepted by many as a guideline for right or correct way of living. This guideline has a spiritual basis and faith is an important component of the law of attraction.

The modern believers feel that law of attraction has scientific basis and thought energy attracts like energy. For controlling this energy, you must know what you want from the universe. Then you must ask the universe for the same. You ought to focus your thoughts on the desired thing with good and positive feelings of gratitude and enthusiasm. You must behave and feel as if you've already achieved the desired object and be receptive for getting the same. The main features of this are a strong desire, definite decision, enthusiasm, belief, sincere work and feelings of gratitude and expectancy. This also depends on spiritual values, prayers, strong faith, satisfaction, enjoyment and happiness.

Criticism to the Law of Attraction

There has been a lot of criticism regarding the law of attraction. The scientific basis of this has been questioned with regards to its validity. Many people feel that there is no proper methodology for defining the law of attraction. Some people feel that if we can transform situations as per our thoughts, then why is the world afflicted with so much of poverty, starvation, sufferings and death.

Despite all the criticisms, many people feel that the law of attraction is very instrumental to being successful in life.
